Host: Jonathan Chew, Program Manager, Walt Disney Imagineering
Jonathan Chew is an Engineer, Project Manager, and Exuberant Individual. He has worked in several leading companies like Amgen, Ratheon, and is now a Program Manager at Walt Disney Imagineering. At Disney, he has worked on several exciting projects like Cars Land, Shanghai Disneyland, (and other top secret projects he’s not allowed to reveal). Jonathan Chew is a proud business owner and mentor and is very excited to join fellow IEEE members today. He was president of IEEE back when he did his undergrad at UCLA. From the time he gave the graduating speech for UCLA Engineering school, Jonathan has also loved speaking across the nation. He is extremely proud to speak to you today. He hopes to inspire you, bring hope, and help you realize your potential to create a big beautiful tomorrow.

Tim Worboys, Manager, Software Engineering, LinkedIn
Tim Worboys received his BASc in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada before starting his career at LinkedIn in 2012. Tim has worked at LinkedIn through it’s hypergrowth phase between 2012 and present where the number of employees grew from 2,100 to 9,200 in only 4 years. During this time he grew from an entry level Software Engineer to his current role as Manager, Software Engineering.
Tim is passionate about leadership and management and enjoys speaking and writing about these topics as well mentoring and helping people to grow their careers. Tim has held several positions in the IEEE including Vice Chair, Leadership and Training for the Young Professionals and his current roles as Region 6 – Central Area Chair, and Social Media Chair for the Communications Committee of the IEEE-USA. In his spare time you can find Tim hiking, snorkeling, kayaking or whitewater rafting.
John Collins, Hardware Program Manager, HoloLens Team – Microsoft
John Collins is a hardware program manager for Microsoft on the HoloLens team in Silicon Valley, leading the research and development of battery technologies for augmented reality products.
Prior to joining HoloLens, John worked as an electrical engineering lead for the motherboard and hard drive for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One and at Apple managing the development of the battery for the iPhone, iPad and iPod line of products.
He has trained hundreds on the processes, tools and best practices necessary to create high volume consumer electronics. He has been an IEEE and Consumer Electronics Society member since 2008 and was president of the IEEE and Eta Kappa Nu electrical engineering honor society student chapters at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
He also cofounded Daily Lovelies with his wife, a startup that provides custom tailored cosmetics for special occasions.
He is passionate about consumer electronics and the future of virtual and augmented reality.
Norma Jean Mattei, 2017 ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers) President
Norma Jean Mattei, PH.D., P.E., F.SEI, M.ASCE, is professor and past chair at the University of New Orleans’ (UNO) Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. In June, ASCE members elected Mattei 2016 president-elect, and she will advance to Society president in 2017.
She has been active in ASCE for more than 20 years in local, regional and national leadership roles.
President-Elect Mattei sits on the executive committee of ASCE’s New Orleans Branch SEI/Structures Committee. The former Region 5 director has served on ASCE’s Committee on Diversity and Women in Civil Engineering and the Committee on Licensure and Ethics. ASCE has drawn on her expertise for a number of media relations activities, including an interview with National Public Radio’s “Morning Edition” on post-Hurricane Katrina conditions. Recently, she was spokeswoman for “Raised Floor Living,” a commercial that aired in the New Orleans’ region promoting elevation of residential structures above the flood plain.
In 2012, President Obama named Mattei one of three civilian members of the Mississippi River Commission, which researches and provides policy and work recommendations covering flood control, navigation and environmental projects. In that capacity, she helped oversee a drainage basin that covers 41 percent of the nation. The governor of Louisiana appointed her to the state’s licensing board for professional engineers, LAPELS. She also serves on the board of directors for both the Louisiana Transportation Research Center Foundation and the Louisiana Technology Council.
Mattei has been a member of the UNO faculty since 1995. Her technical research interests include large watershed management, material and structural testing, sustainable reuse of spent construction and fabrication materials, and residual stress measurement. She is also interested in diversity, licensure and ethics issues.
Mattei earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1982 and a doctorate in 1994, both from Tulane University.
